One to One sessions- Adults and Older Children

Free education for people with asthma or chronic respiratory disease that will help demystify the condition and address individual needs and concerns. Education is provided by a trained nurse educator and the session will last approximately one hour. Please contact us for an appointment

Smoking cessation

Quitting smoking is more likely to be successful with support and counselling. Asthma Canterbury educators can provide free smoking cessation counselling and subsidised nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) if appropriate.

Baxter Bear- Help for younger children

A free education programme specifically for aged 6 years and under children with asthma. 'Baxter' is a fluffy bear given to the child with an education kit. The asthma kit is very useful when instructing young children on the use of inhalers and spacers and includes a booklet of information for parents. An asthma education session is part of the programme and we follow-up one month and then again six months later. Health professionals can refer patients for a Baxter Bear session or parents of preschoolers can self-refer by contacting us for an appointment
