Easing into Exercise Programme:

Asthma Canterbury recognises the importance of daily exercise in helping people with COPD maintain a better quality of life for longer. To encourage people to start exercising safely and to establish a habit of regular exercise, we have introduced a programme called 'Easing into Exercise'.

An Asthma Canterbury educator will assess the level of your COPD and help with education and support to get you started with regular exercise. In addition, Asthma Canterbury will provide a subsidy for you to start exercising regularly. The subsidy is paid to whatever exercise facility you choose, as long as the exercise encourages movement and breathing and is something that you can do at least once a week. You might like to try Tai Chi, a gentle dance class or have an individual programme at a gym. The subsidy will be available for one year in every three, to enable as many people as possible to take advantage of it. It can only subsidise fees and is not available for equipment.

We have spaces for 12 people on our pilot programme. If you have COPD and would like to find out more, give us a call on (03) 3665235.
